The Machin Collection

A website describing and defining The Machin Collection is currently under construction, and will list and describe in detail all the pieces of English porcelain that originally comprised the extensive collection of the Machin family.

Most of the items in the collection, which extended to several hundred pieces, were from the early 19th century. These included examples of works by some of the finest English potters of the period, including New Hall, Spode, Copeland & Garrett, Hilditch, Caughley, Ridgway, Mintons and Derby.

The Collection was sold off in early 2014 and has subsequently been dispersed. A page will be devoted to every piece, and will include high resolution photographs from a variety of angles, and a detailed description that will typically cover the history of the piece, its known provenance and age, itemisation of any known faults, and confirmation of its place in the Collection.

Every genuine example from the Collection carries a printed label that not only identifies it as part of The Machin Collection, but also assigns a unique number. The same numbering system will be used here to simplify the cataloguing system, and enable collectors to identify any pieces they may own.
